Sew What Do I Wear: Vacation Edition

When the Made for Mermaids and Patterns for Pirates girls mentioned a Vacation Edition blog tour, I couldn't imagine doing any theme other than camping for my own post.  I come from a family that pulled the tent out every other year or so, but I married into a true camping family.   Every trip, I beg and fight for each night in a hotel, but the heart of the trip is at the campground.  So, for my stop on the blog tour, I decided to feature outfits I'd wear during one of our camping road trips.  If you need a soundtrack to this post, I suggest you start with the Go-Go's Vacation, because that's what I'm singing the whole time I'm writing this (Vacation, all I ever wanted , vacation, had to get away)!

My first outfit is the Megan Romper.  I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'm team romper.

You take the style and simplicity of just throwing on a dress but make it so stinkin easy to wear, and you get yourself a romper.  And by that, I mean: my bum isn't showing when I bend down for the 100th time in an hour to pick up a scorned sippy cup or the crying toddler.

And the deep V still manages to make it look sexy, right?! Seriously.

The other thing I love about packing rompers (and dresses too, for the matter), is that I don't have to think about.  Packing seriously stresses me out.  Just tossing in rompers and dresses eliminates a lot of over-thinking that usually happens when I pack.  And then when I'm on vacation, I just pull one garment out of my suitcase and I'm ready to go.

And did I mention this one comes with pockets!?

This gorgeous, fun and bright double brushed poly is from Love Adore Knit Fabrics.  Perfect for a morning at the campsite, chasing toddlers and relaxing!

Our camping trips are loaded with hiking and swimming and exploring the area . . . and more hiking.  But we always are sure to take a trip into town to check out the scene.  And on that day, this Boundless  is perfect! I am loving the maxi-length this summer. And at 5'3 (and three-quarters), I love getting to customize the length of my maxis.

Our last vacation was this past March, to the Florida panhandle.  Our "trip to town" was a day in Apalachicola, and I can't help put picture myself wearing this there!

There's something about a maxi that makes me feel a little Greek Goddess-esque, you know? And yet again, this is double brushed poly, so you know it's comfortable!

Don't you love the woodgrain look to the florals? If you know where I got this fabric, let me know, because I cannot remember for the life of me!

Finally, when we get back to the campsite for the night, I just want to snuggle up and be cozy.  The air gets cool, the sun goes down, the bugs come out, and that's when this Favorite Tee and Peglegs come in!

I made this Favorite Tee (with the banded knotted hem option), in a soft, light-weight French Terry.  It's perfect for curling up at the bonfire.

And Peglegs are a camping and road trip must.  They're always comfortable, even after sitting in a car all day long, plus they're perfect to wear straight from the campfire and into the sleeping bag.  This pair is made from an awesome brushed cotton spandex (seriously an awesome weight to it, from Love Adore as well).  I used the new contoured waistband that came with the Pegleg update.  It's been my favorite! I don't know if I'll ever go back to the normal waistband again (and, bonus! The contoured waistband doesn't add any yardage to my size, so it's so, so easy for me to get a pair out of one yard).

Of course, I had to have some marshmallows to make modeling the outfit seem authentic . . .

Thanks for joining me for a peek into my suitcase!  Make sure you check out all the stops on the Sew What Do I Wear: Vacation Edition.  Click the schedule to take you to Day 1 of the tour!

One final look at my three outfits (if only because I took waaay too many photos, ha!).
